The Wait | Waiting on God’s Timing

Have you ever found yourself waiting on God to fulfill a prayer of yours? The prayer could’ve been marriage, having a baby, birthing a ministry, or starting a new business. Maybe at first, you waited patiently but after a while, your patience wore thin. You may have even reached the point of feeling like waiting isn’t even worth it anymore.

I believe the global recent events  have forced many of us into a season of waiting. Having to wait for an extensive period of time is not only frustrating but disheartening. If we are not careful, the enemy can cause us to second guess what we are believing God for.

If you are feeling the pressure, I’m here to tell you that you are not forgotten in the waiting. Just because you don’t see it now or it didn’t happen when you expected, doesn’t mean it never will.

Take your focus off what you desire and maintain your hope in God.

Often, we misplace our hope in the wrong things and when those things fail, we get disappointed. But when we set our hope on God, we are never put to shame (Psalm 25:3).

We can all fall prey to misaligning our hope and focus on what we’d like to see God do in our life. I myself am guilty at times of misplacing my hope. However, when I become aware of it, I stop to evaluate things and work toward realigning my hope in God. I do this by first asking God’s forgiveness for placing what I want at the throne of my heart as opposed to Him. Anything we value more than we do God is idolatrous and God has no obligation to bless us with idols.  Furthermore, God is our ultimate reward! Everything we need can be found in Him. What good is a fulfilled longing without a relationship with God?

I then ask God for strength to remain focused on Him and not what’s going on around me. Sometimes in order to achieve this, it takes refraining from watching and listening to certain things or unfollowing people on social media outlets. This is because the highlight reel of people’s lives and the misrepresentations displayed in the media has the tendency of being a major disruption of focus. These things can be major distractions because they can lead to comparison and jealousy. It is of the utmost importance to guard our hearts from such things.

Most importantly, I press into the presence of God and allow His word to minister to me in my weaknesses. Eventually, through the reading and meditation of His word, my doubts are seized by my hope in God.

Instead of setting my hope on what’s to come, I set my hope in God working on my behalf.

I establish in my heart that His remedy will be one that works for me and is favorable for me even if it doesn’t align with what I think is best. So, even if that means I must wait, I wait patiently.

You may be asking, why the wait? What’s the purpose in waiting? Well, one thing’s for sure, waiting well is a key part of developing patience, which is a fruit of the spirit (Galatians 5:22-23).

“Not only that, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope” – Romans 5:3-4 (ESV).

Through perseverance, our hope is ultimately strengthened which in turn strengthens our faith. Faithfulness is another key component of the fruit of the spirit.

We know that as Christians, our goal is to become more Christlike. Activating the fruit of the spirit enables us to achieve that goal. Through the wait, the Holy Spirit refines us in the key areas of patience and faithfulness. View the waiting period as an opportunity to grow spiritually!

If you’re waiting on God for something, put that something on the shelf.

The door of fulfillment is closed until God has opened it. Don’t wait on the fulfillment but instead wait on the Lord and trust in Him (Psalm 27:14).

Honestly the wait may not always be easy but when trusting in God is the primary reason for the wait, it is worth it!

  1. This post was what I Needed. Knowing that if GOD promised great things for me, I should be patient and wait.
